Jason Williams, it is.

via NHL.com

Williams gets a one-year deal, no terms disclosed as of yet.

Williams, 28, was originally signed by Detroit as a free agent on September 18, 2000. In 233 games with the Red Wings between 2000-01 and 2006-07, he posted 49 goals and 67 assists for 116 points. The London, Ontario native enjoyed his best season as a professional with Detroit in 2005-06, finishing with career highs in goals (21), assists (37) and points (58).

Now we're just loading up on right-handed shots, eat your heart out, Sammy. This may not be a popular choice among the Red Wing Nation, but if he and Patrick Eaves combine for close to 40 goals this season...will anyone be complaining?

McCrimmon needs to set Jason aside and teach him how to play point on the powerplay. Though playing those years on the same team as Lidstrom and being that scary (defensively) has me a little worried.

My guess is that Leino and Williams will be spending a lot of time in Babcock's office this season. Just a hunch.

Um...so apparently RedWings.com posted this 2 days ago! How did we all miss this?

  1. Wow, everyone missed this. Eaves was the big story.

You know, starting to rethink this, don't hate it. If you were going to say the Wings were going to sign two fill in players for under $2 million, you'd be happy they ended up with two with 20 goal potential.
