Round 4: Mattias Ritola

Moving right along with part 4 of 7 looking at the current Wings roster...it actually gets easier after this one, believe it or not.

Matias Ritola: Selected in the 4th round, 103rd overall in 2005.

Born: 3/14/87. 6’0, 190 lbs.

There is currently no Red Wing on the current roster who was selected in the 4th round of the NHL Entry Draft. But, they do have a guy in the minors…two actually selected in the 4th round in 2005, so sorry to Ryan Oulahen, but Mattias Ritola has a much cooler name. Ritola had 42 points in 62 games played for the Griffins last year and impressed at last summer’s Traverse City Prospect Tournament. He has decent size, and from what I’ve seen with limited exposure at Griffin’s games, he has the potential to be a great play-maker if/when he makes the big club. He’s only 22 years old, too. So, he may have another full season in Grand Rapids before he gets a legitimate shot at wearing the Winged Wheel for any long stretch…which is fine. Stay and over-ripen in Grand Rapids, my son. We’ll be waiting for Bud Lynch to say that sweet name of yours…if he makes it that long.

I bet that goalie has never been burned by a guy with such an awesome name.
