The Toledo Walleye announced this morning that an affiliation agreement has been sealed with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League.
Um...what? Is this some kind of joke that Chicago is trying to play on Detroit? Because if it is, I sure ain't laughing. I'd like my Red Wings to stay as far away from your Blackhawks as possible, please.
The announcement comes just two days after their affiliation with the Detroit Red Wings, a fellow "Original Six" and Central Division rival, was confirmed. Similar to the agreement with the Red Wings, the Blackhawks will send prospects and lower-level players to the Walleye from time to time. The Walleye will work with the Rockford IceHogs, Chicago's American Hockey League affiliate to groom players for the NHL.
Beat them up, boys. Beat them all up. Hope you weren't looking for the starting goaltender job, I hear that Jordan Pearce has a bit of a meanstreak.
I'm going to have a lot of hockey to follow on top of the Wings this year. The Grand Rapids Griffins, Tatar in Plymouth, and the great Chicago-Detroit experiment in Toledo.
