All About Lidstrom

-------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty much declaring this day, October 16th NICK LIDSTROM DAY. I don't know if I have the right, but I'm doing it anyway.
-------------------------------------------------

No doubt the greatest D-man of his generation if not all-time. Lidstrom just missed out on the Rookie of the Year, losing to Pavel Bure...well nearly 18 years later and we all know which one of those two names will live on forever in greatness

More on his epic milestone from Dave Waddell and the Windsor Star...

"I'm very proud of to reach that milestone with the other players ... in there with a 1,000 points. When I first joined the league I never thought I'd reach a 1,000 games, let alone (1,000 points.) I do take a lot of pride in reaching some of the milestones and being the first European doing it."--Nick Lidstrom

Lidstrom last night became the first European-born defenseman to reach the 1,000 point mark. Only seven other defensemen have achieved this goal. Now, there are eight.

Here are a few other Lidstrom accomplishments from nhl.com...

-Norris Trophy winner six of the last eight seasons played (2001, 02, 03, 06, 07, 08)
-The only European born captain to lead his team to a Stanley Cup championship
-First European born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (2002)
-Ranks fourth all-time in Wings history in games played (1,324) and scoring (997)
-Holds the Wings single season record for assists (64) and points (80) by a defenseman
-Has the highest plus-minus rating (+410) in the NHL since 1991-92
-Named the NHL's player of the decade by The Sporting News (2000-09)
-Four Stanley Cup championships (1997, 98, 2002, 08)
-NHL All-Rookie Team (1992)
-NHL First All-Star Team (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008)
-Olympic Gold Medal Winner (2006)
-Olympic Tournament All-Star Team (2006)
-Played in NHL All-Star Game (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008)

The man, the myth, the legend.

  1. What happens when the man surpasses the myth and matches the legend?

You get Nick Lidstrom, best hockey player on the planet (and a better defenseman than both Zdeno Chara and Mike Green). :)

  2. The king. He is a much better defenseman than Zdeno Chara and Mike Green, but I don't really count Mike Green as a defenseman ..
