For the third consecutive season, the Griffins won't play any preseason games, choosing instead to train in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena before returning for practice in Grand Rapids ahead of the regular season, which starts Oct. 3 at Peoria.
You would think that passing on pre-season games might lead to a slow start for the Griffs, but actually, I did a little research and here's what I found their records to be in the month of October (first month of regular season play)...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2006
4-2-0-3
2007
5-3-0-0
2008
4-0-0-3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that bad really. Overall, the three years they have skipped the pre-season, they have gone 13-5-0-6 or 32 points out of a possible 48. Most of the top players will be playing in the big club's preseason games while the players not-so-fortunate are left to prepare on their own.
