Quick update from Traverse City: Darren Helm has become the first casualty of training camp, as he took a bad spill into the boards this afternoon during practice at Centre Ice Arena and hurt his shoulder.
General manager Ken Holland just told me Helm "has gone for tests, and we should know more this evening."

Dear god, no! Hopefully, they are being overly cautious. Though if it's serious to "go for tests" then I'm more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs....ok sorry, too much caffeine.
Please, please, please let him be alright.

I just talked to Helm, who wore a sling across his right shoulder. He said he's out 2-4 weeks with what Helm termed a slight A joint sprain.
General manager Ken Holland just said he wouldn't make any moves yet, though it's unlikely that Helm will be ready to start the season in 2.5 weeks. Salary-cap wise, however, the Wings would need to put Helm on IR in order to not be over the salary cap, as they can't just hide him in Grand Rapids.
Ugh...how wonderful. Abdelkader will start the season up with the big club if Helm can't go in Stockholm. Nothing against Justin...but it isn't Nightmare on Abdelkader Street...and it never will be.
Sacrilege. Out 2-4 weeks, may not go to Sweden.
ReplyDeleteSo today's my birthday and I get the news that Helm is hurt and that Patrick Swayze died.
ReplyDeleteGetting older sucks.
Patrick Swayze died? Jesus. Really?
ReplyDeleteYoungblood is one of the best worst movies I've ever seen.
I just found a video of Helm's injury and an interview with Abdelkader:
